Solberg Rocking Chair

Solberg Rocking Chair

The bold red, yellow and blue "rosemaling" design on this rocking chair was hand painted by Dr. V.B. Harstad. This rocking chair was built, with very few woodworking tools, from a native poplar tree, in Bentley, Alberta, in the year 1970. The maker of this chair was born in Stange, Norway in 1883. Solberg hand made several of these rocking chairs during his lifetime, and he also carved beautiful violins out of wood. A Solberg violin and also a rocking chair are on display in the Royal Alberta Museum.
