Stephansson House Provincial Historic Site
Embark on an historic adventure and be our guest at the historic home of Icelandic pioneer poet Stephan G. Stephansson, Poet of the Rocky Mountains.
Stephansson and his family immigrated from Iceland to Alberta in 1889. There, within the view of the Rockies, he homesteaded - farming by day and writing by night. His prolific literary output gained him renown as one of the greatest poets in the western world.
Restored to its 1927 appearance, Stephansson House offers a glimpse of Alberta's Icelandic heritage and the life of this pioneer-poet.
Guided tours of his historic house, including historic demonstrations and activities give you a taste of how this Icelandic pioneer family lived in the 1920's central Alberta.
