Alberta is oil. It's our history, our economy, and our future. Leduc #1 is where the modern oil industry started in Alberta. On February 13th, 1947, the course of Alberta's history changed forever as our agriculture economy became fueled by petrochemicals. When Leduc #1 blew in the workers knew they were on to something big, and the resulting success put Alberta and Canada on the world oil map, forever changing the economy and destiny of Alberta.

Visit the site of Alberta's historical oil discovery - a discovery that changed the industry and the province forever. Experience 13 acres of indoor and outdoor exhibits; come watch an award-winning film, walk the deck of an operational drilling rig, and travel back 365 million years through geological time to the Devonian period, inside the world's largest virtual drill bit. Get a taste of what it is like to be part of Alberta's oilfield history.

Learn about the people and the process behind on the world's most valuable resources at the Leduc #1 Energy Discovery Centre. Our education programs offer unique opportunities that most students would not have a change to experience. We provide curriculum-based activities that reinforce teaching concepts or introduce students to new ideas. Leduc #1 offers hands on opportunities where students can mix drilling mud, explore the geology of Alberta, engineer pipelines and make real life connections to the oil and gas industry. We offer self guided tours as well as guided tours, if booked in advance.
